To make this update process possible we will be using Avatar Rom. Avatar is a great ROM created by a famous developer from XDA forum, which is based on the last CM10.1 and incorporate all the latest features of Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2.

A lot of users found this ROM useful and they report no difficulties to implement it. Main Avatar ROM characteristics are:

  • Based on CM10.1 Android Jelly Bean – 4.2.2
  • Last code CM 10.1 2.4b
  • Two new themes (MIUI v5 and theme Pink)
  • Corrections of the status bar.
  • Actions added to the registry.
  • Performance improvements in animations

Before you update Samsung Galaxy S2 to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, keep in mind that all data, such as contacts, SMS, photos, music and videos will be deleted if they are stored in the phone memory. Please do not do a backup of the data with KIES as it creates the backup in the format (.SBU) which sometimes have problems in restoring or recognize the phone. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you backup contact and SMS by following suggestions below:

  • SMS – Use SMS Backup and Restore app,
  • Contacts – Sync with Gmail application,
  • Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to SD Card,
  • To note the settings for APN and MMS, go to Applications -> Settings -> Wireless & networks> Mobile networks -> APN,

Make sure all security solutions such as firewalls, antivirus and application KIES are completely close until the firmware update is complete.

Note that you have to charge your Galaxy S2 battery to at least 70% to ensure that the update is not interrupted.

Never interrupt the firmware update process manually, if it is interrupted by power failure then there is no need to worry because all you have to do is follow the instructions from the beginning.

It is very important that you have ADMIN privileges before proceeding to update the phone. You must also enable the USB port which means that you must have read/write to the firmware so it can be applied successfully. To do this go to “Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging“. Note that the phone must be disconnected from the computer when you do this step.

This ROM is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 and GT-i9100B but no other versions.

You must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed.
