On Wednesday, Casio announced in Japan the second generation of its Bluetooth watches. These watches can now operate outside their area, since they support the iPhone 4S (and no doubt his successor), in addition to Android smartphones sold exclusively in Japan.
These watches are in fact based on the Bluetooth Smart, low power mode of Bluetooth 4.0, still used by some smartphones to exchange information.
It is then possible to receive notifications (beep or vibration), time synchronization, time zone and alarms from the phone, the alert when the phone is out of range (about 2 m) and the automatic termination of the connection in case of prolonged absence of movement.
Beyond its expanded compatibility, the new “GB-6900AA” is also strictly identical to its predecessor, except that it is now available in five colors.
Casio took the opportunity to launch a second model, the “GB-5600AA”, inspired by the aesthetics of the more sober famous model “Vintage”, Bluetooth and more shockproof. Autonomy is two years for 12 hours of use per day, and water resistance to 20 meters deep.
The G-Shock Bluetooth range is now sold in Japan, where the two models are available at same price for 18 900 yen, or about $200.
