After months and months of speculations and rumors, Apple finally announced its iPhone 5 and revealed its specifications, many of which were already foreshadowed.
Apple iPhone 5 is finally announced with iOS 6 (with voice assistant Siri) who finally chooses to distinguish itself from its two predecessors (iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S) with a new model number, design and characteristics.
After a strong identity as the iPhone EDGE/3G/3GS and the more discreet iPhone 4/4S who introduced an all-glass hull, Apple offers a smartphone more in length, due to its new 4″ screen with a back in two tones, comprising a metal core surrounded at each end with portion of a glass. This design was widely apprehended for months.
4″ Retina Display and Lightning connector
Dimensions ofthis new iPhone 5 are 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm and weight 112 g. The iPhone 5 is thinner and lighter than its predecessor. The 4″ Retina display offers a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels in 326 ppi for a 800:1 contrast and brightness of 500 cd/m2.
The iPhone 5 still has its iconic front single button, and traditional buttons on the edges (On/Off, Volume, Mute). The headphone jack, whic previously in older models was on top is now migrated to the bottom, where we also find the new Lightning connector which we announced few hords ago.
An adapter which will use the old connector operator accessories with the iPhone 5 will be proposed later, at a price not yet reported.
The back camera uses a iSight 8 megapixel sensor / flash LED with capability to record Full HD 1080p videos. It offers a panorama mode, an autofocus or adjustable touch, face detection and video stabilization. In front, there is a 1.2 megapixel sensot with 720p video recording capability.
Apple A6 and LTE
On board there is an Apple A6 processor who’s performance are twice as high compared to the previous generation. The amount of RAM is not specified.
The smartphone supports WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. It embeds a GPS/Glonass with digital compass but it does not add NFC (Near Field Communications), a time approached, or wireless charging system.
iPhone 5 is compatible with 4G/LTE (we will see what is gone happen with HTC iPhone 5 sale ban because of LTE patents). In reality it will be delivered in three configurations depending on the market, called GSM A1428, CDMA A1429 et GSM A1429, with variations on the frequency bands supported, including GSM/EDGE, HSPA+ 21 Mbps DC-HSPA 42 Mbps.
This wide range of supported mobile network technologies should meet the needs of most operators, even those who do not yet have LTE networks by allowing them to still offer high speeds, even without the refinements of 4G.
nano SIM and EarPods
For autonomy, the iPhone provides up to 8 hours 3G talk time, 10 hours of WiFi use, 10 hours video playback, 40 hours of audio playback and up to 225 hours standby. One side sensors include three-axis gyroscope, an accelerometer, a proximity sensor and a light sensor.
Finally, the new Apple smartphone is the first to embed nano SIM cards, including mobile operators have made provisions pending commercialization. The manufacturer clearly states that the model is inconsistent with the micro SIM used in previous iPhone.
The iPhone 5 is available in three sizes, 16, 32 or 64 GB. A new headphones that come with new iPhone 5 are called EarPods (which can act as handsfree kit) are designed to offer optimum audio quality.
